What the reporting says
BJ Watling has been appointed New Zealand's batting coach, replacing Luke Ronchi after the December Test series against India.
Watling joins the squad on November 16 and takes over fully for the four-Test tour of Australia beginning December 9.
Ronchi is leaving after six years to become Melbourne Renegades head coach in the BBL.
Watling played 75 Tests, 28 ODIs and five T20Is for New Zealand before retiring in 2021.
Will O'Rourke is out of New Zealand's home series against India while rehabbing left hamstring and calf injuries.
O'Rourke has not played competitively since tearing a hamstring, with an August calf strain delaying his return.
