Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee pledges continued cooperation with the ICC

Issuing a clarification regarding remarks recently made by the Hon. Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee, Mr Eran Wickramaratne, during a television interview, the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee stresses that those remarks were not made with any intention of expressing an unfavourable view of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

In a statement, the committee said the remarks in question were made with the aim of explaining the holding of elections in sports governing bodies in Sri Lanka, the appointment of interim administrative bodies, and the legal and administrative procedures relating to them.

The committee further clarified that the Chairman's views should not be interpreted as challenging or departing from the ICC's principles, guidelines or requirements. The primary purpose of the remarks was to clarify matters concerning the governance reform process being carried out within Sri Lanka's existing legal and administrative framework.

The statement adds that the remarks were made in the context of commenting on various matters arising in relation to the future administration of Sri Lanka Cricket and on the broader governance reform process, and that it was not their intention to question the ICC's role, conduct or position with regard to Sri Lanka Cricket.

Meanwhile, it has also been emphasised that Sri Lanka Cricket and the Transformation Committee are committed to engaging continuously and productively with the ICC in taking forward the governance reform process in the sport. The committee points out that a cooperative relationship between the two parties is important in order to maintain ongoing consultation and dialogue with the ICC throughout that process.

Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee further clarified in its statement that the remarks made during the interview should be understood in their proper context, and that they should not be interpreted as an unfavourable stance held by Sri Lanka Cricket or the Transformation Committee towards the ICC.
