Test squad named for Pakistan tour

ThePapareNews article

The national cricket selection committee has named a 15-member Sri Lanka cricket squad for the two-match Test series against Pakistan.

Kusal Mendis has been named captain for the first time, and he joins this series as Sri Lanka's 19th Test captain.

Dinesh Chandimal, who was injured during the 1st Test against India at home, has been brought back into this named squad, while Pathum Nissanka has also been included with the hope of having him available for the series subject to his fitness level.

Anjala Bandara, aged 22, and 25-year-old Eshan Malinga have been included in the named squad for the first time.

Anjala Bandara, a left-handed top-order batter as well as a wicketkeeper, has so far scored 2239 runs in 46 innings across 31 first-class matches with 7 centuries and 7 half-centuries, and has maintained a batting average of 65.85.

Right-arm medium-pace bowler Eshan Malinga has by now represented Sri Lanka in ODI and Twenty20 internationals, and has taken 44 wickets bowling in 32 innings across 19 first-class matches so far.

Lahiru Udara, Kamil Mishara, Sahan Arachchige, Niroshan Dickwella and Vishwa Fernando, who were part of the recently concluded home Test series against India, have been left out of the players named in this squad.
