Sri Lanka girls beat Pakistan for the first time

Sri Lanka CricketNews article

Thanks to a superb knock from Sanjana Kavindi and an impressive bowling effort by the Sri Lankan players, the Sri Lanka youth girls managed to record a comfortable nine-wicket win over the Pakistan youth team today (on the 09th) in the sixth match of the Under-19 Women's Twenty20 tri-series being held in Pakistan.

In this match, played at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, the Pakistan youth team batted first and put together 110 runs for the loss of 8 wickets at the end of the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Sri Lanka youth girls sealed the win by reaching 111 runs for the loss of just one wicket at the end of 15 overs and 2 balls.

Sanjana Kavindi, who became the chief architect of the victory, compiled an unbeaten 61 off 46 balls. Her innings contained 8 fours and a six. Giving her excellent support, Vimoksha Balasooriya made an unbeaten 43 off 46 balls. The pair carried Sri Lanka towards victory by building a 108-run partnership for the second wicket. Sanjana was dismissed when only three more runs were needed for victory. For this knock, Sanjana also claimed the Player of the Match award.

Having won the toss and opted to bowl first, the Sri Lankan side restricted the opportunities the Pakistan batters had to score freely. Komal Khan, the top scorer of the Pakistan innings, made 54 runs off 59 balls. Her innings included 7 fours, while Ravail Farhan scored 26 runs off 26 balls.

The pair gave Pakistan a steady start by adding 57 runs for the first wicket. But after that partnership was broken, the Sri Lankan bowlers were able to take control of the match. Shahar Bano made 14 runs, but the other batters were unable to build long innings.

With Pakistan losing wickets in a steady stream in the closing overs, their scoring rate was disrupted, and run-out dismissals in the final few wickets also worked in Sri Lanka's favour. In the face of the Sri Lankan bowlers' control and their skill in the field, Pakistan had to settle for 110 runs.
