Pakistan claim a 51-year-old record that was once set against them

The tri-nation ODI series currently being played in Pakistan, featuring Sri Lanka, England and Pakistan, has once again drawn the attention of the cricketing world. That is because several more world records were written into the history books in the match between Pakistan and England that ended on the 25th at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Earlier, in the Sri Lanka – England ODI that finished at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Sri Lankan and Pakistani players managed to rewrite several records, including the fastest double century in the history of world ODI cricket and the list of the highest run chases in ODI history.
The Pakistan – England match that followed also entered the record books as a remarkable game that added several more entries to world ODI cricket history. The foremost of those records was the best 10th-wicket partnership ever recorded in a run chase. That honour went to Pakistan's Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf.
When the two of them came together for the last wicket, Pakistan needed 88 runs to win. While that was a difficult target for Pakistan, England held the advantage in the match at that point.
But proving once again that cricket is a game of uncertainties, Pakistan, who were behind in the contest, went on to win the match at that very wicket. Earlier in the series England had been unable to defend 429 runs against the Sri Lankan side, and in this match they could not defend 88 runs with the last wicket standing.
In surpassing the mark in this match, Pakistan became the owners of a record that had been written against them 51 years ago.
In doing so, they broke the record of the 64-run partnership between Deryck Murray and Andy Roberts of the West Indies against Pakistan at the first World Cup in 1975.

This knock also became the best innings of 28-year-old Shadab Khan's career, across 47 innings in 74 ODIs. His previous best was the 86 he made against the West Indies at Multan in 2022.
112 : This match produced the second-highest total of runs added from the fall of the 8th wicket onwards in a chase in the history of world ODI cricket.
The top spot in that record belongs to Sri Lanka. On their tour of Australia in 2010, in the match played at Melbourne, they added 136 runs for the last two wickets.
89* : The runs Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan put on together for the 10th wicket in this match make it the second-best stand for that wicket in Pakistan's ODI history.
The top spot there belongs to the 103 runs added by Mohammad Amir and Saeed Ajmal against New Zealand at Abu Dhabi in 2009.
In addition, the 10th-wicket stand recorded in this match is the second-highest partnership for that wicket by any team against England. First place belongs to the unbeaten 106 added by Viv Richards and Michael Holding of the West Indies in 1984.
129 : With England adding 40 runs and Pakistan 89, the combined unbeaten 10th-wicket runs by both teams in this match became the highest total added for that wicket by two sides in a single ODI in history.
The previous mark was the 116 runs put together by Pakistan and New Zealand at Abu Dhabi in 2009. On that occasion New Zealand added 13 runs and Pakistan 103 for that wicket.
1 wkt : Pakistan's victory in this match was their 9th win by that margin, placing them third on that list.
First place on that list belongs to the West Indies with 12 such wins, and second place to New Zealand with 10.
3966 : In this match Pakistan's left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi passed the 150-wicket milestone in ODIs, and it stands as the second-fastest by balls bowled to reach that number of wickets in the world.
First place there is held by Australia's Mitchell Starc, who reached that mark in 3857 balls.
Shaheen Shah Afridi took 80 ODIs to reach this milestone, which places him as the joint-fourth fastest bowler on that list.
Alongside him on that list are India's Mohammed Shami and Afghanistan's Rashid Khan, also level on the same mark, while Nepal's Sandeep Lamichhane, who reached the milestone in 73 matches, holds first place, Australia's Mitchell Starc is second having got there in 77 matches, and Pakistan's Saqlain Mushtaq is third, reaching it in 78 matches.
2x100 : England's Ben Duckett recorded a century in this match, and he had earlier scored a hundred at the very same ground against Australia in last year's Champions Trophy. He therefore became the only England player to score two centuries at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
