Prabodha's outstanding bowling restricts Bangladesh to 114

Sri Lanka CricketNews article

Sri Lanka’s bowlers restricted the Bangladesh women’s team to 114 in today’s (06) Women’s Asia Cup Group ‘B’ match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bangladesh managed only 114 for 8 from their 20 overs. Sri Lanka were therefore set a target of 115 to win.

Sri Lanka’s bowling attack maintained the pressure throughout, never allowing the Bangladesh batters to accelerate, with Chamudi Prabodha’s outstanding spell proving decisive in keeping the innings under control.

Prabodha claimed 3 wickets for 21 runs from her 4 overs. By dismissing Dilara Akter, Sorna Akter and Shorna Akter, she placed Bangladesh’s middle order under severe pressure.

Sugandika Kumari also took 2 wickets for 22 runs from 4 overs, while Kavisha Dilhari claimed one wicket for 17 and Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu one for 20.

Sobhana Mostary made the principal contribution to Bangladesh’s innings, scoring 34 from 41 balls with 4 fours, while Dilara Akter made 26 from 26 deliveries with 4 fours. Juairiya Ferdous and Fahima Khatun scored 14 apiece.

However, Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling denied the Bangladesh batters any opportunity to score quickly in the closing overs, leaving them with only 114 from their 20 overs.

Had Sri Lanka’s fielders not dropped several straightforward catches during the Bangladesh innings, they could easily have restricted Bangladesh to an even lower total.

Bangladesh Women 114 for 8 after 20 overs – (Dilara Akter 26, Juairiya Ferdous 14, Sobhana Mostary 34, Fatima Khatun 14, Chamudi Prabodha 21/3, Sugandika Kumari 22/2, Chamari Athapaththu 20/1, Kavisha Dilhari 17/1)
