Two Lions games before the T20Is - what are we trying to find out?

Dinesh Perera08:35354 views

We play England Lions tonight and again on Sunday, and then the internationals start. Two matches is not much time to settle anything, so the honest question is what these games are actually for. For me it is the middle order. The top four more or less picks itself. Five to seven has changed nearly every series this year, and the Lions squad is close enough to the senior side that whoever bats there this week is being tested properly rather than flattered. The other thing is the spinners. September in England is not Colombo, and a spinner who bowls well in these conditions has told us something we can use in three weeks. Curious what everyone else is watching for.

Agree on the middle order. The trouble is that two games is also not enough to drop anyone on, so whoever fails tonight probably still plays the first T20I.

Watching the new ball more than the middle order, personally. We have not taken early wickets away from home for a while now.

Fair, and the two are connected. If the openers see off the new ball there is less for the middle order to repair.
